Story Behind The Story @ Davidson College

On the outside part of Davidson College in Davidson, NC is a historic marker telling the fascinating story of Henry Louis Smith. He’s credited with having conducted the first medical procedures using x-ray here in the US. Yet, as fascinating as Smith’s life story is, the untold story behind this sign is even more intriguing.

Some of Smith’’s own students had heard of breakthrough discoveries with x-ray in Germany by Wilhelm Röntgen and decided to make history of their own. Their story includes bullets, bribery, and a severed human finger! In this video, Kyle dives a little deeper into a crazy story that took place on Davidson College’s campus in the late 1800’s.
