Ground Penetrating Radar Systems Search For Answers (See What They Found By Shovel Testing!)

In the final video from our visit to the Hoyle Historic Homestead, we get to see ground penetrating radar in use alongside an active dig site. If you've never seen an archeological dig site, you might be surprised to see some everyday tools in use such as a shovel & trowel, sifting screens, and the trusty 5 gallon bucket!

The Hoyle Historic Homestead is over 200 years old and it's certain that the soil here still has stories to tell. Marty and a team of UNC students and volunteers are dedicated to unearthing as much of that story as possible.

Every day archaeologists all across the country attempt to piece together small stories about our past. What they find is often only part of the picture, but by using context clues, referencing other finds, and utilizing many different forensic techniques, they're able to determine the most likely scenarios and help bring new understanding to these historic sites.

We're Murph and Kyle with Hometown Chronicles USA and we are passionate about touring the country to learn more about our culture and history. We'd love if you join us on our next adventure!
